One of the more rewarding aspects of scientific communication is engaging young minds and inspiring future scientists. Dr. Nalini has always been passionate about doing outreach activities and she visited Hwa Chong Institution for the fourth year in a row. She shared the lab's work on studying insect reproduction to understand biodiversity and how we can engage insects for sustainable solutions. This year, she was also able to share how HCI seniors actually ended up as interns in the Reprolab and encouraged students to explore their interests in research early.

After learning about black soldier flies (BSFs) and their possible role in Singapore's food security from Dr. P, graduate students from the module BL5313 (Food Security and Sustainability) recently came over to the NUS BSF facility to look at how we rear these flies. Shoutout to Yong Jen (RA) for the tour, and thank you Dr Maxine for reaching out to us! We hope to see you next AY :)

Demonstrating how we separate BSF larvae from their by-product, frass, which also contains substantial amounts of nutrients and can be used as an organic fertiliser.

Our BSF Team (in collaboration researchers from NTU & SEC) participated in NTU CCA 's IdeasFest 2023, held across February 16 to 19, 2023.
Shoutout to our SEC collaborator Niraly Mangal (SEC) for inviting us to be a part of this public event and taking the lead in preparations! She also shared about the importance of her current work on designing future food systems using BSFs during her scheduled talk at SEC.
